Greetings from Conservation Value Institute (CVI) and welcome to our educational 'library of sustainability'.
On this web site, we provide a selection of our favorite articles and tip sheets from across the web that illustrate (some directly, others indirectly) the many ways that maintaining a healthy environment also benefits our economy, public health, and quality of life.
We have many exciting things planned, and encourage you to contact us if you are interested in getting involved.
Our Mission
Conservation Value Institute (CVI) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization founded to research and educate the public in practical environmental solutions. Our mission focuses on researching and educating the public in ways to simultaneously solve environmental problems, save money and improve our health and quality of life. We aim to debunk
the myth that protecting the environment is harmful to the
economy and to foster its replacement by a positive vision
of sustainability as the smart path to becoming wealthier,
healthier and safer communities.
Targeting a Market With the
Resources to Affect Change
Our
main current market consists of traditional environmental
("green") consumer and business segments who are
already interested in the benefits of sustainability (one
segment being the rapidly growing Lifestyles of Health and
Sustainability, or LOHAS
Market).
We also aim to reach new environmental constituencies - people
who might not consider themselves to be environmentally concerned,
but who ARE interested in learning new ways to save money,
boost their business profits, and live safer, healthier, and
more secure (e.g., energy-independent) lives.
Our Team is of The Highest Quality
CVI was founded by a Ph.D. conservation biologist and sustainability specialist with over a decade of on-the-ground
experience working with ranchers, agency and business officials,
environmentalists, and top scientific and land management
experts.
Our selection of web resources is rooted in a deep scientific
understanding of the science of sustainability - the specific
causes of climate change, pollution and habitat destruction,
and the specific consumer and business choices that can simultaneously
reduce these impacts and improve peoples' lives.
The Board of Directors includes a founder of the California
Sustainable Business Council and Executive Board officer of
the California Resource Recovery Association, and a senior analyst of socially responsible investments.
CVI's Advisory Board includes a journalist and co-author of
"The New Economy of Nature: The Quest to Make Conservation
Profitable"; a land management expert who is the Director
of The Nature Conservancy's Invasive Species Initiative; the
founder of a successful online music marketing company; the Co-Chair
of a prominent music industry voter-registration organization;
and an esteemed conservation ecologist and ecophysiologist
who has worked around the world as a biologist, international
policy negotiator, environmental educator, and trainer, a
renewable energy consultant and software architect, and a
medical doctor.
Note: We are currently recruiting,
both for our Board of Directors and Advisory Board, experts
from academic, business, NGO, media, marketing, and government
worlds to represent the diverse interests of our clientelle.
